Artists in schools
To VSA arts of Massachusetts, the arts can provide multiple options for students to interact with academic content, demonstrate their understandings, and engage in learning. For that reason, we consider that it is essential that all children experience opportunities in the arts during their school years.
We offer programs in which experienced teaching artists collaborate with classroom teachers to create arts-integrated learning experiences for students with and without disabilities, while promoting inclusion. Read on and find out about ways in which we can collaborate.
TEACHING ARTISTS: We collaborate with a group of over 20 experienced and culturally diverse teaching artists with and without disabilities who work with teachers in classrooms throughout the state, from Pittsfield to Salem, including extensive projects in Worcester and Boston.
ART FORMS: Our artists will bring singing, dancing, acting, painting, sculpting, drumming, puppetry, weaving, and many other art forms into your classroom to help uncap the abilities of all your students and promote learning of the academic curriculum.
HOW LONG? VSAM residencies vary in duration and range from one-time short programs (10 - 12 weeks) to yearlong programs, depending on the interest of the school, artist availability and funding.
