Biography

Ms Freitas was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico in 1976. She is one of four children, the only one to be affected with a physical disability known as Spinal Muscular Atrophy, a form of Muscular Dystrophy. Knowing that her life was in jeopardy due to a form of scoliosis, her parents made the difficult decision to fly her to Worcester, Massachusetts, to undergo a life-saving procedure. As it turned out, she continues to live a full life. Carol graduated from college with a degree in Graphic Design. Throughout her life, she has maintained a strong ability to fight for different issues that concern individuals with disabilities.

Being a daughter of both an artist and a housewife, she acquired the love for art and creativity. To this very day, she thanks both her parents for the gift of teaching her the ability to both express herself in her work as well as to maintain an open outlook on life and what it has to offer. Carol Freitas is both a painter and poet. Please contact ann@vsamass.org if you are interested in contacting the artist.
