Resources for Artists
VSA arts of Massachusetts is here to assist artists with disabilities grow in their art. If there is a demand, we can run classes at the VSAM office. However, there are art classes all over the Greater Boston area and all over Massachusetts that are available to artists with disabilities. And don't forget to sign-up for our mailing list to receive updates for artists. Click the link at the bottom of every page on our website where it says "Mailing List".
General Resources
The National Arts and Disability Center web site is a great resource for artists. There are resources for artists who are working on getting a career in the arts. One resource is a sequel to the book, Putting Creativity to Work. There is also have an extensive list of calls for art for artists with disabilities.
ArtSpaceFinder is the definitive place to find or list space to create in Massachusetts and the Boston Metro Area.
Artist Support Sites is an arts and healing network giving links and descriptions of several sites offering support to artists.
The California Arts Council in collaboration with the National Arts and Disability Center at UCLA announces the availability of $500 grants for arts organizations or artists with disabilities. Funds may be used towards the professional development of artists and to enhance the participation of people with disabilities in the arts.
Online Artists' Portfolios Resource creates online artists' portfolios which may be free of charge for artists with low income, student artists, and artists with disabilities, who do not have their own website.
New Disability Information Web Tool is the U.S. government's one stop federal web site for disability related information and resources, recently unveiled a state and local resources map designed top make it easier for visitors to find information for their own states and localities.
Arts Healthcare Coalition - Get the information you need on understanding the state's new Health Care Reform Law Enacted in April 2006, the Massachusetts Health Care Reform Law is designed to provide health insurance to every man, woman and child in the Commonwealth. All Massachusetts residents over 18 years of age are required to have health insurance by December 31, 2007.The new health care system is a significant change with potential benefits for artists and arts-related employers alike. However, to navigate the new system successfully, it is important for you to take initiative and the time to educate yourself about the new requirements.
Matchbook is an online cultural marketplace that brings together New England's performing artists and the people and organizations who present them. This free website features an easy-to-search directory of artists, performance spaces and presenting organizations, designed to MATCH artists with presenters that BOOK them to perform. National Arts And Disability Center (NADC) is the national information dissemination, technical assistance and referral center specializing in the issues of arts and disability. The site includes directories, list of available studio space, and other links to serve artists with disabilities.
It's All About Arts is a free art listing service for the Greater Boston Arts Community provided by Janice Williams. Published every Monday morning. The Foundation Center hosts a website that is a deep resource of newsletters, resources, and links to funders. From the main page, click on the "individual grant seekers" on the left-hand column.

The National Alliance for Media Arts and Culture - NAMAC is a nonprofit association composed of diverse member organizations dedicated to encouraging film, video, audio and online/multimedia arts, and to promoting the cultural contributions of individual media artists.
Theatre Communications Group has a subscription service called ArtSearch ($40-$60 for six months) which provides national listings at every level of employment in theatres and performing arts centers, summer festivals, schools, dance and opera companies, symphony orchestras, museums, arts councils, and other art organizations.
