Biography
I am an artist/painter who
lives and paints in Boston. I graduated from the Museum of Fine Arts
School in 1988 and did a 5th year in 1989. For my 5th year project I
did 10 paintings dealing with AIDS, the government, and the church.
My work deals with social and political themes, moral consciousness,
homophobia, and other issues that I find difficult to ignore.
Since 1984 I have lost (to
date) 139 friends and loved ones to AIDS. Much of my work is dedicated
to their memory to urge my viewers to action or empowerment. I am now
working on a continuing series of portraits in the theme of "We
are Family"; "un-conventional"; but valid "family"
structures.
As a citizen of this country
and survivor of its contradictions and hypocrisies, I often find myself
"tilting at wind-mills" with either the lances of anger or
humor. I hope to reach my viewers with some mix of the two.
I am sometimes viewed as
a "radical" who is anti-government and anti-church. I am neither.
I only try to hold a mirror to those "institutions" of morality,
government or "family values." So that perhaps we can be the
best that we are capable of being
Inclusive, compassionate,
diverse, and proud.
